At Cawston Press, we've always taken pride in doing things properly. No short-cuts. No 'jiggery pokery' Just delicious drinks always made from pressed fruit.

Now it's time to redouble our efforts to do more good. That's why we are launching our 'pressing for better' sustainability action plan: 10 clear commitments for people and plan.

1. Aim for net zero

We are committed to halving Cawston Greenhouse Gas emissions by 2030, achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050 & disclosing our progress on a yearly basis.  This journey has started by carbon footprinting each of our product formats and working on reducing our office emissions.

2. Reducing emissions

We will make Cawston picked and pressed not only better for taste but also better for the planet, with a focus on reducing our transportation emissions.

3. Less food waste

Fruit and veg is our passion but we know that a shocking 8% of man-made Greenhouse Gas emissions come from food waste so we are passionate in wanting to help people take climate action by reducing their fruit and veg waste.  We will use our packaging and communications channels to help educate and inspire citizens on reducing food waste.

4. packaging waste

We’re committed to doing our utmost to keep our packaging (and others’) out of landfill and in the loop.  That’s why we switched to recyclable paper straws in our cartons and why we are working hard to improve recycling info on all our packs by the end of 2022, as well as continuing to increase the amount of recycled materials in our packaging.

5. responsible sourcing

We are committed to being collaborative and accountable partners to our suppliers, striving for what's best for people and planet because, put quite simply, we are custodians of this planet and should never take more than we can put back.  Our card and paper used in our primary packaging is either FSC or PEFC certified and we made Zero waste to landfill from factories in 2020.  Deepening our relationships with our suppliers will be key to us doing more.

6. Healthier choices

Our commitment to No Jiggery Pokery sits at the heart of our recipe development and communications. That’s why none of our drinks will ever be high in sugar, salt or saturated fats and how our cartons are school approved.  We want to help all families make healthier choices.

7. Healthier communities

8.4 million people in the UK are struggling to afford to eat and just one third of adults and one in ten teenagers get their 5 a day.  That’s why we’re committed to investing in the health of the communities we serve.  One of the key ways we do this is by supporting Food Banks, at a local and national level, to bring healthier choices to more people.

8. Healthier team

We are committed to investing in the health and well-being of our people because without our brilliant team none of the Cawston magic happens.  This means many things such as supporting charities, flexible working, encourage and support exercise, trained mental first aiders and a team Charity Day.

9. more diversity, equity & inclusion

We’re committed to being a more diverse, equal and inclusive business.  We lead for a culture that is without prejudice or judgement and are constantly looking for new ways to bring this to life, inside and outside of the business.  Inside the business, we measure gender representation and are targeting to have a female board member by 2023.  Outside of the business, we partner with local organisations to support diverse and disadvantaged young people in our area.

10. more team action

We are working hard to embed sustainability into our Cawston day jobs and to make more and more every day sustainable choices in how we operate.  So far that’s meant providing office facilities to encourage our team to travel lighter and to reduce, reuse and recycle more.  We know there’s much more to do which is why every Cawston Team member will have their own sustainability objectives and from 2023 this will be part of their annual review.

The United Nations' 17 sustainable development goals (UNSDGs) are a blueprint for a better future. Set in 2015, they imagine a future where by 2030 the world could be free from poverty and hunger, and safe from the worst effects of climate change. It's an ambitious plan but one we all have a responsibility to support and aim to make real. Our Cawston 'pressing for better' action plan is focussed on supporting three of these critical goals.
